Richman | Portland, Maine USA | 10/26/2008 (4 out of 5 stars) "When I saw John Wright's "South Side Soul" in a cut-out bin, I had no idea who this pianist was. In fact, as best as I can tell he only made one more record, Mr. Soul for Prestige in 1962. This album, his debut from 1960, features bassist Wendell Roberts and drummer Walter McCants rounding out Wright's trio. It's a local Chicago group of the day, but their playing is anything but provincial. Fans of great soul jazz should definitely visit the "South Side" while they can."
