Extremely Good Music

"John Patitucci is one of the finest bass players in the world. He's played with many of the greatest jazz and world musicians around and is also a very strong composer as this record shows."Mistura Fina" (Fine Mixture) is just what its title says it is. It is fine, and it is a delicious mixture of all sorts of styles, with a wonderful Brazilian backdrop. The album contains both vocal and instrumental tracks. Much of it listens like straight-up Brazilian popular music. But there's more to it than that; the musicianship is so good and subtle that it feels awkward tagging it with the "pop" label."Puccini" is a beautiful track that opens with some gorgeous bass work that imparts a wonderful, breezy, floaty, beachy, palm tree feeling. Once the melody kicks in you're just ready to embrace the water and sky. "Samba Novo" and "The Four Loves" are also stellar tracks. This man's playing, musicianship, composing, willingness to truly collaborate, and openness of spirit are lessons for any amateur or professional musician.flm"
