CD Reviews

Intimate, love music between God and the soul

"I searched for a long time to find this CD! My parents had gotten it for me a long time ago and then I lost it. I just had a memory of JMT's soothing voice and beautiful guitar until I finally was driven to search for it again. I am so happy to have this music. I listen to it over and over again and have yet to grow weary of it. The music is based on the poetry of St John of the Cross a mystic contemporary of St Teresa of Avila. Through it, you find yourself immersed in a love story that continues coherently throughout the CD, the love story of God and the soul. Each song is masterfully crafted so that they flow with ease and a lightness that you might not expect while remaining seriously beautiful, pleasing, and melodic. This is music that will bring you into the presence of God and what's more, show you the way that love between the soul and God has its way of working out. As I said before, I am so happy to have this CD. Two others that are like it that I would also recommend are "Meditations in the Spirit" and "Meditations from Solitude." I am currently searching through JMT's body of work to discover more music like that on "Lover and the Beloved" and the other two that I mentioned. Also, check out the poetry of St John of the Cross if you are into deep spiritual longing for God. You won't be disappointed! Just like JMT doesn't disappoint, indeed, he DELIVERS!"

"A highly recommended Christian music CD for all John Michael Talbot fans. The music in this album is in contrast to Talbot's usual, in that it is solo singing along with a classical guitar. Most of the music is taken from St. John of the Cross and Thomas Merton's poem writings. Beautiful and uncommon music."
