Synopsis

Album Description
Young Turlough And His Harp A Story from Ireland by Joemy Wilson Mick Moloney, Narrator; Sylvia Woods, Celtic harp The year is 1684. Young Turlough OCarolan, a peasant farmers son, is poor but happy, surrounded by friends, family and an exciting new home to explore. But then he catches the dread disease smallpox and becomes totally blind. Now what will he do with his life? The wicked fairies want him to stay forever in their magical underground kingdom, but his eternal soul would be the price. Will Turlough find a better way? Can the power of music save him? Joemys imaginative tale, inspired by Irish folklore and based on the life of the great Irish bard and harper Turlough OCarolan (1670-1738), is sure to delight listeners of all ages. Winner of a Parents Choice Silver Honor! The program contains 30:07 minutes of narration by Mick Moloney, one of todays great Irish musicians, with background music on Celtic harp played by All-Ireland Harp Champion Sylvia Woods. Then follows 31:10 minutes of music alone, on hammered dulcimer, guitar, Celtic harp, flute and fiddle: selections of favorite tracks from Joemys popular Carolan albums (Carolans Cup, Carolans Cottage, Celtic Dreams and Celtic Treasures).
