"We like to think of our style as gospel and jazz ..."

""... so we like you hope, hope you like ... well, anyway, here goes ..." Words remembered from an intro to "Children Go" at a Joe and Eddie live performance that ended up on one of their albums. This was the greatest birthday present I've ever received! When the albums I collected as a teenager began to wear out, I made tapes of them and have been listening to those ever since (needless to say, this CD is a *vast* improvement to listening to tapes that are over 30 years old - the sound is nothing short of AMAZING). Since ALL of their songs were my "favorite," I can't say that I wish pieces like "The Muddy Old River" were on this CD - because what I really want is MORE CD's so that I can have *every* song they ever recorded sounding as though someone has turned back the clock and they're right here in the room with me!They were the first singers I ever saw perform live - a terrified teenager, clutching their latest album to my chest. After the performance, I was too shy to ask them to autograph it, so my uncle approached them for me. As they signed, they looked over his shoulder and smiled at me and I thought then that *nothing* that would come after in my life would EVER rival the pure joy of that moment. I was right ... although I've dealt with my share of celebrities since then, nothing ever has come close to matching what I felt that night. These two men made a HUGE impact on my life and I've judged every other singer and group on how they stood up against the music of Joe and Eddie ever since. As Joe and Eddie are still my favorites, it goes without saying that no one has yet made it over a bar that their perfection set impossibly high. Had their career together not been cut so tragically short by the untimely death of Joe Gilbert, there's no doubt in my mind that they would have had a well deserved place on the list of the best singers of all time. It did my heart good to read in these reviews that Eddie Brown remained involved in the music industry - communication at the time wasn't what it is today and it was difficult to find information, or I'd have followed his career, every step of the way. If you want to permanently remove the word "depression" from your vocabulary - buy this CD and listen to it at least twice daily. I promise you that it's the least expensive "therapy" you'll ever find :-)"
Undoubtedly the best duo ever!

"I was introduced to J&E the first part of 2000 by my wife who needed to give back two vinyl LPs to her brother and wanted me to record them off before she sent them. I was hooked! Finding this re-issue of their ninth LP with 14 more songs from their first eight LPs was an epiphany! This CD breaks through the clicks, pops and hiss of even the most pristine vinyl. The depth of the tones and distinct stereo separation gives serious voice to having the entire J&E collection remastered and released on CD. Any one want to start a fan web site?"
More Joe & Eddie on CD, please!

"I thought I would spend the rest of my life only with my LP's...thank goodness I have Joe & Eddie on CD! I didn't realize how much I missed hearing those wonderful voices....if you have ever loved folk or gospel music, do what I did...buy 2 copies and give one to your parents! I would love to have more Joe & Eddie, like "Black Is The Colour", and the whole LP of "Walkin' Down The Line" on CD."

"I had only one of Joe & Eddie's first albums when I went to hear them in a nightclub in Georgetown, but that was just a start. They were magical. I was sitting about 10 feet away and was completely mesmerized. Their energy was incredible and they held every person in that club spellbound. When they did, "The First Time" I don't think I even took a breath. In "Sing Hallelujah" their voices start like a stream and build to Niagara Falls carrying us with them. No one has ever duplicated their intensity. They sang Gospel with incredible passion and I'm sure heaven is a livelier place since Joe arrived. They had a unique sound that needs to be preserved for future generations. It's hard to believe that they wouldn't be recognized again if this CD got more play. If they can bring back the very questionable 70's, surely they can bring back Joe & Eddie! I'm glad that a number of "second generation" fans have written reviews.Their voices blended perfectly and Joe's voice brings tears to my eyes. His tenor is so clear and pure. This is a good mix of their best songs, but I agree with the others; there are many songs left out. They do one of the best renditions of "Kisses Sweeter than Wine" with apologies to Jimmy Dean. Surely someone can put the rest of their songs on other CDs. I like the idea of a website. There is precious little about them available. There is an interview with Eddie Brown ...and there are comments by Joe's sister and the widow of their high school voice coach which are very interesting, but that it about it. The insert tells of Joe Gilbert's death and I cried all over again. It doesn't seem possible that such an incredible voice could be silenced. I remember how devastated I was when I heard he had been killed. Joe didn't live an easy life and it may have been for the best but it seems wrong that such an incredible talent could have been housed in such a fragile vessel. I can hardly listen to "The Things I've Saved" without tears. I think he must have had a premonition. He made magic when he was with us and I should be grateful for that, but it still brings me to tears. I'm glad to hear that Eddie Brown continued in the music world. His voice is outstanding, especially in "I'm a Drifter." I am glad that he didn"t try to replace Joe. I would never want to belittle his incredible talent, but once you heard them sing together something would always be missing. Their partnership was something rare and beautiful and they brought a great deal of pleasure to millions. This CD brings that pleasure all over again. I couldn't recommend it more!"
