CD Reviews

One of my desert island discs...

"Jimmie Spheeris "Ports of the Heart" astonished me 30 some odd years ago when I first heard it. I was extremely fortunate to get a promotional DJ advance copy and it quickly became one of my most played LPs. There's something very special about this music - but mostly, to me, it sounds still fresh... alive... hard to "date". And the recording quality and mix is astonishing. His rendition of "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" is the best ever IMO. A desert island disc for me."
The Track Listing on the Amazon page is not correct

"The track listing given for "Ports of the Heart" is not correct. My vinyl version is long gone, and I don't yet have the cd version, so I can't give the correct track listing..... Would someone at Amazon please change this?!!

On to discussing this cd... Sometimes one wonders whether a classic album from 30 or more years ago can stand up to the changes in modern man's musical tastes caused by changes in technology. For example, the classic 1960s TV series the Prisoner looks a bit stodgy now. Spheeris' oeuvre clearly holds its own, even now.

"Ports of the Heart" and "Isle of View" are my favorite Spheeris albums. The only difference to me is that the lyrics in "Ports of the Heart" are even more moving....
