Gentleman Jim From the Early Days Until It Was Over
Eclectic Revisited | Arizona | 11/16/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is another long-gone but popular artist whose compilations are many. This is a good one that covers the early songs like "Mexican Joe" and an oft-recorded "I Love You Because" up to "Angels Don't Lie" around the time of Jim's fatal crash. With all of the man's heartbreak songs, starting notably with "Four Walls", there is a well-orchestrated background sound that adds to the poignancy of this velvet-toned performer. Country songwriting talent abounds with "Distant Drums" (Hall of Famer Cindy Walker), "Welcome to my World" (likewise Hank Cochran) and "I Missed Me" (Whispering Bill Anderson). There were other songs of note released after Jim Reeves' death not on this compilation such as "That's When I See the Blues (In Your Pretty Brown Eyes)" but if you look around, you might still want to buy this one. It's a keeper."
