"I used to think there was no Jim Capaldi CD/Album but 'Whale Meat Again'. How wrong I was. I still believe in 'WMA' but Oh How We Danced! Starting with Eve each song is a surprise. First horns, next strings, now it's searing guitar all with an early 70's sensibility that still seems fresh today. And always there is Capaldi's singing! I love Traffic's jazz influences and of course those influences are here too. Possibly the weakest link in this wonderful chain of songs is Open Your Heart. But save yourself for the last and title track. It is worth the wait! Similar artists? Traffic... or, this may seem strange but, Santana."

"Capaldi shows a well toned talent for both melody and arrangement on this disc. The songs vary widely in texture and feel, but each of them contributes substantially to the overall performance. Capaldi's vocals are haunting, and the lyrics have a staying power that keeps them fresh a quarter century later."

"I often review blues music,so i'm a bluesfan.But for me it's impossible to be impassive in front of some kinds of works such this magnific Capaldi's album.What we extract from this "Oh How we Danced"is that long distance 70's tunes with great performances,full of beautiful moments we could only find in some works from that time.I consider Jim Capaldi one of the ícons of the early 70's.We still have the great Eric Burdon...Joe Cocker...all of them with stage presences that are actually,a rarity!!
This album involves me with great feelings during all the tracks
and this is music of great quality.Rarity!!!!
Unfortunately the youngers of today are hearing another kind of musics with poor quality!This is what they needed to get in their ears!!!
This is that kind of music only for people that know what is music of quality...great quality!!!!

"It happens in the music unfortunately very few times the author seems to be in such level of inspiration that it literally overcomes his own time and throw his hat to the immortality .
In the rock music of the last sixties and early seventies there were some remarkable examples: Sympathy for the devil , Satisfaction and Paint it black _ The Rolling Stones - Aqualung -Jethro Tull- , The low spark of high heeled boys -Traffic- , Born to be wild - Steppenwolf- , July morning -Uriah Heep , Hey Joe - Jimmy Hendrix- In a gadda da vida - Iron Butterfly- , Smoke on the water - Deep purple , Soul Sacrifice - Santana- , Stairway to heavem - Led Zepellin - , Star gazer - Rainbow - , After hours - Roy Buchanan - Cry baby - Janis Joplin- or Light my fire -The doors- that constituted unexplanaible but real issues of songs far beyond its time to become in real legends and musical icons of the collective memory .
In this case the notable Don't be a hero belongs to this selected of immortal ballads in this sense .
All the CD is good , but this theme elevates by itself and maintains its prima donna status due such unexpected and even easy to explain causes that belong to the unknown files .
Jim Capaldi made a six minutes masterpiece , impregnating it with such dark poetry and potent mesagge that it will be hard for you try to find similar themes which can match with it in what expresiveness and rapture concerns .
Another timeless of this age would be : Rain of Uriah Heep , Changes of Black Sabbath , Besides you of The New York Rock Ensemble , Michelle of Beatles , Lady Jane of the Rolling Stones , Audrey of Bread , Lucky man of Emerson Lake and Palmer , Epitaph of King Crimsom, The wind cries Mary of Jimmy Hendrix , Have you ever loved a woman ? of Clapton , A white shade of pale of Procol Harum , When a blind man cries of Deep Purple, Theme for an imaginary west of Mountain , Our house of Crosby , Stills , Nash and Young and Color my world of Chicago just to name the most remarkable immortal ballads of those unforgettable creative years."

""Oh How We Danced" continues to sound fresh and energetic, though more poignant now with the passing of drummer and vocalist Jim Capaldi and guitarist Paul Kossoff, who contributed greatly to this record. The signature Traffic sound permeates these songs, and with several members of Traffic along for cameos and backup roles, that's no surprise.
Mr. Capaldi shows his strength as a songwriter, too, and Eve and Don't Be a Hero are among his best penned compositions. His cover of Al Jolson's Anniversary Song is a gem, too, and Mr. Capaldi even appropriated it's a line from its lyrics for his album's title. But when I listen to this album, I think that the real driving force here is Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, who were on top of their game at this point, living up to their billing as ace session players.
