Synopsis

Album Description
Saxophonist Jessica Lurie (Living Daylights, The Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet) has a new release with her quintet The Jessica Lurie Ensemble to promote her brand new CD Zipa!Buka! (Watch Out!, Noise!). Described as "...a feast for those who favor the crossroads where post-bop blurs boundaries between jam-band textures, avant-jazz colors, and much more."(Andrew Bartlett, Seattle Weekly), this project features Lurie's talents as band leader and composer as well as player. An added bonus with this ensemble is that Lurie will step out from behind the sax and sing as well. With an original repetoire ranging from groove to funk, haunting eastern european melodies, latin rythms, free jazz and high-energy interaction between members, The Jessica Lurie Ensemble creates a dynamic and fresh direction in music.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Jessica Lurie is a master of the Saxophone. Although she is relatively unknown outside of the northwest, She is definately one of the best in the business period. Zipa! Buka! is a fine album and surefire enjoyment for any hardcore jazzheads out there. I recommend this album to anyone who wants their mind blown with wide open no holds barred Jazz. Be sure to check out the Living Daylights too. Jessica plays sax for this band and they are super tight. Not for the elevator music crowd!! Get ready to jam the night away."
