HOW COULD THIS BE?
M. farrell | sherman oaks, california USA | 08/14/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"that's exactly the question I asked of myself....and, there was no answer forthcoming because the answer lies not in the stars but...yeah, it's that same old shakespearean thought that remains as brilliant as the day it was born ...and in this case, we are dealing with a little known musical revue which had its theatrical debut somewhere in london, england on may 28th, l985 under the title 'jerome goes to hollywood'. that's right...this little known show is over l7 years old and if it weren't for this cd it would still be a complete non-entity to me. i am so glad it didn't happen that way. i am so glad that 'jerome' found his last name in the process of making that trip....i am so glad that i spotted this title on this site....and i am absolutely so proud of myself that i even ordered this....thinking that it was just going to be one of those compilation discs that couldn't be that bad ...after all, it's still the music of jerome kern. it is, isn't it? i am here to tell you that you have no need to worry about this one. just get it. if you love kern you will be in kern heaven. of all the glorious tributes musically presented to the memory of jerome kern...i think this is the one that he would love the most because it is so....well, so right. so pure. so simple. it is magical without making a big illusion out of it all. it is also very deceptive...in a positive sense. when you have finished listening to the l8th track you will think that you've heard every single one of your favorite jerome kern melodies. you will feel that fulfilled. then you will realize it was only an appetizer. it's all the music you've ever cherised....it's all the songs you've ever identified with....it's all the things you are and ever will be when it comes to attaching yourself to a love in your life...be it a special person you haven't seen in a long, long time or the last time you hailed that taxi cab when your heart was young and gay. this cd is definitely a 'keeper'. 'makes me feel good just telling you about it."
