CD Reviews

Buy it for Miguel
EmmaLee Pallai | New York, NY United States | 02/06/2003
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I'll be honest and quick- I bought it for Miguel Ferrer's voice, as I love his speaking voice- and the only disappointment was that he was only the lead on four songs. all the songs seem a bit trite, more like clones of everything else out there, but Ferrer drags them out of the quagmire of influences, his voice allows them to rise above their creation and make the cd worth my purchase, although not a heavily rotated member of my collection. Miguel needs his own CD with better material, his voice is quite hot. . ."
A Nice Blend Of Influences

"Yeah, I know, I know, a band founded by Billy Mumy of "Lost In Space Fame" (Will the poor guy never live THAT down?)---how good could this album be? Well, it was an extremely pleasant surprise. Mr. Mumy and his good friend, fellow actor Miguel Ferrer, have a pretty good group here. The former Will Robinson writes or co-writes all of the songs and provides lead vocals and acoustic guitar. Mr. Ferrer also sings lead on some songs and plays percussion. Fellow bandmates Tom Hebenstreit/lead guitar, Chris Ross/drums, and Gary Stockdale/bass guitar are all talented performers. The result is an album that is easy on the ears and an enjoyable blend of influences: pop, rock, jazz, blues and ethnic flavorings. No, this band isn't the caliber of Emerson, Lake & Palmer or Pink Floyd, and nor do they pretend to be. They're just a bunch of guys having a good time while exploring creative music avenues. We really like their style and their fine instrumental playing. Our sole gripe is that Miguel Ferrer should have done far more singing than Bill Mumy; he has a deep sexy voice reminiscent of better Tom Waits' singing, and his pitch is beautiful. As a result, our favorite songs on "Hitting the Silk" are the ones on which Mr. Ferrer sings: "In The Greenhouse", "Too Good To Be True", "The Truth Hurts" and "What Has Happened Before". The other songs are fine, but might have been improved by having Ferrer's sexier voice for the lead. (That's the main reason for the four-star rating.) Other than that, however, we felt that this CD was a good investment and it's a shame that it wasn't more popular---it's far more deserving than much of the musical drek that's topping the charts right now. A must for fans of Miguel Ferrer; his deep voice is to die for!"
ROCK-TACULAR!

"There is no disappointment here, let me tell you! This way outlived any expectations I had of this band, and believe me my grand expectations were ranked very high up on the scale being that I knew Bill Mumy was in this band! Bill, your voice is one of a rock n roll star! This was my first cd of THE JENERATORS, and in my opinion it is their absolute best! Bill's voice is rich yet soft, tender yet powerful! These songs took me to another universe, and I liked it there! Miguel did a great job, too! A favorite song you ask? Come on, it's too hard for this cd! I didn't take it out of my player for weeks! The only reason I did was when I bought the rest of them! They hit the silk with this one that is for sure! This is nothing short of ROCK-TACULAR! I have a question... When is the next cd coming out and when are we going to get a live in-concert dvd? I want more... This became my favorite rock n roll band! Let's all raise a toast in honor of THE JENERATORS! 10 STARS **********"
