When I bought this CD I was disappointed he did not include his version of "Night In Tunisa," in which he stylishly blends Dizzy's original version with Chaka Khan's' 'Tunisa'-influenced "And the Melody Lingers On!" Male singers today can't do to songs what Robinson does, and it's an absolute treat experiencing his textures and phrasing. He belongs in a category with Billy Eckstine, Jimmy Scott, and Johnny Hartman. His rendition of Marvin Gaye's "I Want You" belongs in the canon of Jazz-remade pop tunes; It is a true classic I can listen to every day, every hour!
It's shameful singers such as Robinson don't get the radio airplay they deserve; Music fans everywhere are missing a rare, joyus gem." |
