A Brilliant "New" Singer Songwriter

"This album is sort of a greatest hits collection gleaned from Lang's Australian releases over the last decade. I learned about him online surfing around lap steel guitar maker sites then saw a review of this release in a recent Guitar Player magazine. I bought the disc to hear his lap steel playing (an instrument I play and collect), but found much more than just an excellent master of that instrument. Lang is one of the best singer songwriters I have heard in quite a while. Think of Jackson Browne and David Lindley wrapped up in one package, with a little Kelly Jo Phelps thrown in. Buy this disc."

Excellent compilation

"What makes Dislocation Blues a more interesting recording than other Chris Whitley albums is the participation of Jeff Lang. That Whitley/Lang collaboration caused me to seek out more Lang albums and that's how I discovered this recording. It is a compilation of Lang songs from previous Australian releases, alternative versions of "Cedar Grove" & "Gina", and radio edits of "The Save" and "Too Easy To Kill". Every track is filled with blazing guitar work. Sometime the guitar is acoustic, sometimes slide, sometimes it's highly distorted. The other musicians are great too and the fiddles, mandolins, bass, drums and percussion are all wonderfully played. Lang authored all but two songs and each is a masterpiece of music and lyrics. I couldn't be happier with this CD and I ordered Cedar Grove today.

"Wonderful song writing and inspiring musicianship. Many excellent songs. Title song is worth the price of the CD alone. One of the best guitarist songcrafters I have heard in a long time. Highly recommended."
