"This is Jeff Kollman's second solo album (all of which are guitar instrumentals). I have yet to hear his first (Schizoid), but Into the Unknown really showcases the metal side of Kollman's influences. Unlike many of the shred movement, Kollman comes across as a skillfull and soulfull songwritter first and foremost, who happens to have TREMENDOUS chops. I was really skeptical when I first went to see him play with a couple of my heros (Shane Gaalaas and Barry Sparks), but this guy is a rare find indeed. His third solo album and his work with the instrumental fusion band Cosmosquad are more diverse and mature, but for those days when you want to rock out, this is the CD. Check out his website as he is really prolific and it will tell you what albums by other artists he plays on. There is also sample music of his playing in the backround so you can get a taste for what he sounds like."
