Synopsis

Album Description
A little groovy, a little sexy, and a whole lotta cool, TEMPTATION is the powerful Narada Jazz debut from top-selling guitarist Jeff Golub. Including a nod to one of his influences, Wes Montgomery, Golub continues to make his mark on contemporary jazz with these 11 new tunes featuring his blues-drenched guitar lines, pop/rock sensibilities, and chilled-down grooves. Weaving his signature bluesy style with European-chill marks a new direction for the guitarist. This direction wasn't planned; it resulted from the meeting of two distinct artistic minds - Golub's and Grammy(r)-winning producer Paul Brown (Boney James, George Benson, Al Jarreau). "Paul has a strong track record as a producer, and what he brought to TEMPTATION sounds different from the approach I used on my previous records," says Golub. "At the same time, as guitarists, there are a lot of similar things that we like to hear in music. By combining a European-chill type sound on some of the tracks with my bluesy guitar, it gave us an interesting feel that sounds like me, yet different from what you generally hear in smooth jazz."

CD Reviews

Like so many things...Better with Time

(5 out of 5 stars)

"How the masses (they're donkeys) miss such good music/art like Jeff's still amuses me. Hopefully this is one project that doesn't get missed. There isn't a bad track on the entire project. With Golub's distinctive good taste, there is a subtle (at times) and outright tribute to the legendary Wes Montgomery who the super-producer Paul Brown also pays homage to in his last CD.

I particularly enjoyed the track On The Wes Side which is a mellow soul influenced tune which reminded me of Golub's live set(the best way to hear him). Another treat is the aptly named Cream and Sugar. Must be a reference to those am coffee breaks of Jeff after an evening of performing and some other elixir. The tune co-stars his friend Euge Groove. There are many guest artists (no Steve Perry though). Other gems in this project but you should really check it out yourself to discover them.

"Another tasty gem from Jeff Golub"

"Smooth jazz guitar maven Jeff Golub returns with another tasty gem. With production wiz Paul Brown at the controls and a stellar supporting cast of players such as Euge Groove, Lenny Castro and horn arranger Jerry Hey, this one is a smooth ride from start to finish. Highly recommended!

"Since the first time I heard Jeff Golub I could not stopped listening. He is one of the greatest at his style. His last two albums are wonderful. He gets better all the time."
