Get it for Ponty's solo on California alone
M. hampton | 10/19/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)
"Jean Luc Ponty burns into the tune California with some of the most intense, classically bebop lines over the changes ever to be heard on a violin, chorus after chorus. That cut alone is worth the price of admission. The other cuts are more dissonant and modal in the mode of open "blowing" over vamps and pedal points a la Coltrane. Pianist George Duke plays with a nod to McCoy Tyner as much as classic bebop on People. Real hard swinging from everyone involved."
