"For a brief period in the early eighties, Janie Fricke was the hottest lady in country music, and deservedly so, with a whole series of brilliant albums. Although Janie went out of fashion towards the end of that decade, it is surprising that so little of her music is available on CD. Several hits collections have been released, but this, originally released as a vinyl double LP, is one of the strongest yet released.
Janie's music varied in style, some of it sounding comparatively traditional, while some was more pop country. All styles are represented on this outstanding compilation. One of Janie's last commercially successful albums, Somebody else's fire, is possibly my favorite original albums. It is represented here by She's single again and Easy to please as well as the title track.
Janie also recorded many excellent covers. Please help me I'm falling is an old Hank Locklin song. Cry is the old Johnnie Ray song that became a top three country hit for Lynn Anderson and later a chart-topping country hit for Crystal Gayle. Pass me by was recorded by many country singers in the seventies, but none did it as well as Janie.
If you can find this album, it is well worth the effort. It has 20 tracks, which is three more than the more readily available Greatest hits."
