CD Reviews

Different is better
D. Smith | Portland, OR | 08/12/2005
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I will respectfully disagree with the other reviewers. I think this CD is wonderful. Lowdown Grown-up Jive is tongue in cheek yet serious. The musical arrangement is tight, with a beat reminicent of 60's girl bands. Love Stuff showcases Harmans flawless harmonica technique and the title tune wraps up the CD with a blues festival type jam.

Too often blues fans expect more of the same from their favorite artists. Harmans departure from his previous offerings is clear on this CD, and I like it. Change is good."
Icepick cometh
W. Landis | des moines, iowa | 04/09/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"i dig james harman and everything he has done that i have heard. this is a little different for james, not like the na'kin's albums or live alive in '85. james uses it as a chance to deliver some of his political and social views, but that icepick drawl and killer harmonica draw you right in. it's good to see james diverisfy a little but never straying too far away from the blues."
James strays from the traditional blues confines here and it

"I too am a long time James Harman fan and this is my favorite. "Alibi, Reason Why" is worth the price of admission. "You say it all over we can walk away friends..hahahah". That said, I don't think J.H. can make a bad album. They are the best of breed."
