"having only heard mandell's "parallel processes," and liking it well enough, i picked up "love songs..." a previous reviewer was right in saying that it strays between solid sounds and a more experimental feel. in the liner notes mandell claims that these songs really are an expression of his love of machines, although after the second listen i too felt wooed by the intelligent structure of the songs. just when the discord is about to break loose a sparkling gem of melody or near-ambient pulls the listener back into the scheme of things. a really dynamic work that conveys a sense of going places. the track titles themselves are actually the sequence of a poem, a device which conveys more motion in and of itself."

"I Heard of Jake Mandell through the Clicks n Cuts v1 compilation, and then bought "Underling", which is a much more ambient sound swooping low sound to it (but still enjoyable). So today I bought this cd and haven't stopped playing it - reminds me of Jega's Geometry in parts but warmer and with better beats - and it's actually hummable/danceable stuff instead of a lot of tweaky blips/bleeps."
