CD Reviews

Excellent Collection of Late 60's Pop
M. Owen | Seattle, WA United States | 10/26/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This disc is a collection of material Dutronc released circa 67-68. The title track is very Gallic and a couple songs are pretty mellow, but there's also some good psychedelia on here, as well as some rockers. Not as strident as some songs on Et Moi Et Moi Et Moi(also highly recommended), but there's definitely some bite to the songs. Dutronc has been referred to as a "French Ray Davies." The similarities are there, but there's more to Dutronc than that. Major talent who deserves wider recognition in the US."
One of the Best French Albums of all time!!

"Not much french music get exported because most of it is too french. Jacques Dutronc's first album of 1968 is GREAT, it's a Classic, and will be immortalized in a decade or so. Come to think of it anything that was released in 1968 was amazing!! But I think this album reflects the political and social upheaval during the Paris 1968 student revolts. Dutronc portrays himself as the true countercultural that stands outside the chaos. Gainsbourg as gained his long overdue credit recently in the States. Dutronc is next. As an album, "Jacques Dutronc" only comes in second to "Melody Nelson.""
