Jacky Cheung - Amour/She's Afar (1985, Polydor/Universal)
LWNORWAY | MI | 04/28/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Jacky Cheung is one of my favorite male vocalists. There was a time when I have owned each and every single one of his albums from 1985-1998. I have gone through a lot to own much of his music between the years of 2002-2003; a time when most of his back catalogue was out of print. I am also very shocked to learn that today, you can find his albums on Amazon.com to buy!

"Amour/She's Afar" is Jacky's second album that he made with Polydor records, which was released on New Year's Eve in 1985, but is usually credited as being released in 1986. Of all of this man's albums, this one was his most celebrated and his most sought after. For years, it has been out of print and every time a reissue was released, those reissues quickly went out of print. Now, it has been easy to get a hold of this album on CD ever since there were two available reissues in 2004. Most of the songs in this album are about infatuation, lost love, ambition, as well as two songs from a Chinese play about a concubine... Ever since I heard the second track "Half Curved Moon" back in 2001, I was hooked. This particular track has some of the most refreshing melodies I have ever heard in any love song.

"Amour" is a wonderful, spectacular album to have. Even though it's one of my five favorite Jacky Cheung albums, I cannot say that this is his best album. That title belongs to Jacky Cheung's 2002 album "Where Is He?", which is currently out of print. Even if you don't understand Chinese-Cantonese language, this is beautiful music to listen to. I highly recommend "Amour", even for those of you who are unfamiliar with this man and his music. I would also conclude this review by saying that even though this album is wonderful, it isn't flawless. If I could give this album a 4.5-star rating, I would do that!
