Synopsis

Product Description
Internationally acclaimed jazz vocalist Jackie Ryan teams up with special guest jazz masters Toots Thielemans on harmonica, Ernie Watts on saxophone, and a host of other top flight musicians on this unique CD of jazz, swing, gospel, samba and soulful ballads. Highlights include Toots' solo on the beautiful love song Estate, sung by Jackie in it original Italian, as well as Watts' soulful sax solo on the exotic songs of lament, Sari, sung in the native language of Brazil's neighbor, Suriname. Three different jazz bands back up Jackie on this CD, and members include Cannonball Adderley drummer Roy McCurdy, bebop pianist Jon Mayer, Duke Ellington trumpeter Allen Smith, and Sarah Vaughan drummer Omar Clay.

CD Reviews

You Gotta Get This One!
Rick Cornell | Reno, Nv USA | 01/26/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Man, is this a good album! Best vocal jazz album of 2003, that's for sure. Listen to how Ms. Ryan covers "Lover Come Back to Me": she starts about mp on about a middle C, and ends the song ff, about 2 octaves up. Jackie Ryan is one of the few jazz singers around who could have made a career in opera, if she had wanted. As it is, she probably has the richest voice of all jazz singers. But the way she uses her voice is even more impressive. Listen to how she whispers "Estate" (Jon Hendricks "In Summer"), then belts "Jump for Joy" in a manner that would have made Mahalia Jackson proud. If you've read this far, then get to your mouse and buy this immediately. This is just tremendous."
