A diamond in a vein of coal

"Buried half way through this collection of songs that can only be described as insipid, is one of the greatest rock songs ever written, "Sour Milk Sea". Featuring 3/4 of the Beatles plus Eric Clapton and Nicky Hopkins, it is a driving rock song that lasts for almost 4 minutes. Everything about it is superb and it has some of the best electric guitar work that you're ever gonna hear as George Harrison & Eric Clapton deliver the goods on this Harrison-penned masterpiece. Ringo and Paul lay down a pounding rhythm section as Hopkins and the electric guitars fill the spaces with a rich variety of interesting riffs. The rest of the album sucks, because the songs are weak. Jackie Lomax is a good rock singer but he's not a good song writer and could never get anyone to pen him another song like Sour Milk Sea. Unfortunately, the ubiquitous MP3 download is not the original because Apple doesn't license the sales of individual MP3 downloads of this song (and many others). The MP3 re-recording, available on various compilations, is decent but doesn't have any of the original's musicians. Though it's not as good as the original, it's worth downloading and it does capture the spirit of the original.

If you want to hear the original version of Sour Milk Sea in its entirety, then you can do so at Jackie Lomax's website.
