CD Reviews

Great album, illegal and corrupted rip of LP!

(4 out of 5 stars)

"I guess it may have gone out of copyright or no one cares, but this "CD" is an bootleg copy of the original vinyl record from the 70s (long out of print). I have the original LP and it is beat up, so this is better that than. However, the bootleggers screwed up the mastering of side 2 of the LP, and recorded it at 48KHz instead of 44.1KHz. When played back at CD speed of 44.1KHz, it sounds really slow! I can't believe no one noticed. To get the correct playback of side 2, you need to speed up everything by a factor of 48/44.1. I used Audigy. Side 2 of the LP starts with track 14 (Threnody for Duck).

Side 1 was recorded ok.

This album is really good. All of the tracks are good. Track 18 sounds a bit dated, like some Peter Frampton 1970's rock-out, but the rest has aged well. Outstanding tracks are 2 and 3 (Peter and Bird tracks) and track 17 (Peter's Chase). I'm not a prog-rock fan, but this is great prog-rock stuff. Very intricate stuff, but not pretentious fluff.

The only downside of the album is that the tracks are too short. Just when you are fully rocking out to Bird's theme, it ends. It could go on for many more minutes.

Check out the list of musicians: Brian Eno, Manfred Mann, Phil Collins !

Why isn't this album owned by every single child (and adult)?"
