"If one were to pigeon hole Jabbo (which is like trying to bottle the essence of jazz), you can only place yourself in the late 20's/early 30's when jazz was in it's infancy. And WHAT an infancy! Some of the BEST jazz that ever was and has seldom (if ever) been improved upon since and probably never will/can be, has been recorded here.Jabbo, molded from the same clay as Bix and Louis, is a perfectly blended cross section of each. His wild swagger and irreverence to tradition must place him amongst the originators of the period. The liner notes were well done, but I would have liked to see some reference to Jabbo and Bix. (good or bad). It BEGS for some discussion. The re-mastering is impeccable, better than most Bix/Louis early recordings of the same era. You like HOT early Jazz? Go for it! Jazz Battle is my favorite cut on this CD.If you have a collection of Jazz, This CD MUST be included!"
