CD Reviews

WORTH WAITING FOR ..... Even in Japanese

"This is a 1960 recording of the Brandenburg, and for me it's the definitive version. I don't know how I would have gotten through college in the 70's without having this playing as constant background music while I studied. I wore out two sets of LPs! There's nothing so sanity-inducing as Bach, and there's no saner version of the Brandenburg than this studied, measured, beautiful interpretation. I've waited and searched a long, long time to finally find a CD release of this recording, and listening to it as I write this is like having an old friend show up after a long, long absence.

There's just one small caveat to go along with all this loving praise. This is a Japanese import, and, except for the printed title on the front cover, all of the liner notes, track listings, etc. are in Japanese. I'm disappointed that there isn't an English translation included, but it's a small price to pay for the pleasure of being able to listen to it again after all these years."
The definitive Brandenburgs

"I was hunting for Klemp's Brandenburgs ever since I heard about them from the liner notes of his Matthew Passion. That was almost 7 years ago.

Two years ago I won the extremely rare-discontinued old Klemperer Edition 3CD Bach set (with the Suites and Brandenburgs) on ebay which I was up all night on trying to win. I paid the most outrageous price for it, but it was the most sought after Klemperer recordings to date. Now it is one of my most prized and cherished possessions I own.

...Now, just about a year ago I found out that EMI Japan re-released Klemperer's Brandenburgs and Suites in 2 seperate slim cases and freshly remastered! THIS WAS THE BIGGEST NEWS IN CLASSICAL MUSIC HISTORY (for me)! Finally now others can obtain these amazing grand recordings! I immediately ordered a set for a friend of mine who is also a huge Klemperer fan. He was dumbstuck when he listened to them!

- You haven't heard Bach Brandenburgs until you've heard Klemp doing them! They blow all other interpretations out of the stratusphere!

But you don't have to be a Klemp fan to appreciate these majestic recordings, you just have to love Bach!

There is no denying that these are immortal recordings, (like Klemp's Mass in B)...a absolute unequivocal must for your household!"
