CD Reviews

Daring, creative and fun

"I have been eyeing J*Davey for almost two years now. My attention was turned to them by Prince, who invited them to perform at his 3121 club in L.A. in 2006. I checked out the MySpace profile of the band then and instantly fell in love with it. Although it took me some time to pick up their music, but that's solely to the fact that you cannot find it that easily. The new double EP finally gave me a real chance to get to know them closer. They're fresh, inventive, catchy and edgy. The male half of the duo is a true wizard as far as beatmaking is concerned. Brook D'Leau brings a whole variety of rhythms, from uptempo bubble pop of "Division of Joy" to the quirk of "Private Parts" that utilizes a Prince-sounding Linn drum machine beat. The production breathes some new life into hip-hop soul and wets appetites for what J*Davey are going to drop in the future. Jack Davey, female half of the duo, lends her sensual voice to almost each of the track (there are instrumental passages) with the swagger and rawness worth of Erykah Badu, yet she's not copying the Dallas marvel in favour of some more spontaneity. The EP is a perfect showcase of J*Davey's originality and potential - their upcoming major release on Warner Bros., which is to drop soon, should win them broad audiences, if the "Turn the Lights Out" from their MySpace is any indication of it."
Thank Goodness for these guys !

"I have listened to J Davey for about a year now. And I have to say these guys are basically the future. Music is so bad now days that this is a breath of fresh air. We really haven't experienced anything this unique since the discovery of Timbaland and the Neptunes. That was over 10 years ago and we are still graced by there talents thankfully. If you love these guys and Prince (when he was trying harder)? You will love these guys and appreciate there electronic sounds and creativeness ! Go to there myspace page and listen to the new track "Turn the Lights Out". That song is just simply amazing and original !"
Is it hot in here?

"J*DaVeY gives me hope for the future of music. It's so promising to see artists like J*DaVeY, Sandogold, Kissey Asplund, Janelle Monae and other rainbow children giving us something different. This album is raw, sensual, fun and awesome."
