"This CD has several tracks on CD for the first time, as well as a few commonly available tracks. Overall, this is a good collection, though mainly for those looking for the German language versions, or completists. A highlight for me is the "Moscow Nights" track from the "Folk Songs from Old Russia" LP. This is the first Rebroff track I ever heard, and brings back memories every time I hear it. I'm glad I have this on CD. The only track I don't really care for is the "Herb Alpert" version of "Wolgalied". It has a Spanish trumpet which makes me think of the Tijuana Brass every time I hear it.Here's a track by track listing detailing where else these tracks can be found.Kosaken Mussen Reiten (Cossacks must ride) [German] [3:29] Same as on the "Kosaken müssen reiten" LP.Kalinka Malinka [Russian] [4:03] Available on the "Kalinka", "Ses Plus Grands Succes" & "The Very Best of Ivan Rebroff" CDs.Mein Rusland, du bist schon (My Russia, thou art beautiful) [German] [3:36] Same as on the "Mein Russland, due bist schön" LP.Poljuschko-polje (Cossack patrol) [Russian] [2:44] Available on the "My Russian Homeland" CD.Wolgalied (Volga song) [Russian] [3:48] Spanish trumpet version. The best singer the world has ever known
(5 out of 5 stars)
"What can I say, Ivan Rebroff is the ultimate voice and with his great voice (a 5,5 octave range) he conveys emotions like no one else can. This man not only sings nostalgic songs, the man definately is mr. nostalgic himself. He mostly sings in Russian and German and he's recorded many Russian songs. But he also sings in English, French, Italian, Dutch, South-African, Greek etc. People. listen to this guy and you'll never be the same. He sings folk, opra, musical etc. and together with Leonard Cohen he's my favourite singer."
Simply the best
