"In the starring role of the flute was Mario Caroli, who made a sound you wanted to drink in and who had the last reflective word in the final piece." - NEW YORK TIMES Italian composer Ivan Fedele (b. 1953) is renowned for his hi-tech approach to composition and his impressive constructions in music. Mario Caroli is celebrated for his flexibility and skill in performing both the standard repertoire and modern music. Many eminent composers have dedicated their pieces to him including Ivan Fedele, György Kurtág, Betsy Jolas, and Salvatore Sciarrino, who called him the "Paganini of the flute." Ensemble Algoritmo was formed in 2002 on the initiative of a group of young musicians particularly interested in playing twentieth century and contemporary music.
