CD Reviews

DO NOT! Beware The Ides Of March
Lisa S. Icenogle & Stanley T. Iceno | Casper, WY United States | 06/02/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This album isn't just about a remake of the hit song "Vehicle", this 2 CD set is for any person who has ever enjoyed The Ides of March. Jim Peterik and clan show that this band has what it takes to survive and prosper in today's music world. This album is filled with energy, emotion, tenderness and humor all in one package. From the opening drum riff of "Friendly Stranger" to the last chord of "Rebel Girl", this album is pure magic. What band can you name that has all of it's original members after 35 plus years? As an added bonus, The Ides perform some of Peterik's hit music from his days as co-leader of the group Survivor. Don't miss the version of Tobacco Road. It smokes!!!! Recorded April 20, 2002, this live set is phenomenal. Put in the CD, crank up the volume and experience one of the most honest bands you will ever listen to."
Phenomenal!!!

"The Ides of March have never gotten the national attention they so deserve and this CD proves, more than ever, that they are a phenomenal group. The brass section (known as the babushka brass) illustrates perfection, while the keyboards and drums keeping you wanting more!

While the Ides have been around for 40 years, they have the energy of new artists and when you speak of perfection, Jim Peterik's guitar playing is the best there is. I'll put him up against any guitar player around. In addition, his songrwriting talents from Vehicle to Hold On Loosely to the heart-wrenching the Search is Over, just reaffirms the talent Jim possesses.

This CD has it all - it and the Ides of March are timeless."
Just Like Being There

"I have been to see The Ides of March several times over the last few years, and Jim Pererik and company always put on a great show. There are a few special gems on this double CD that will not be found elsewhere, like a great version of Tobacco Road that rocks. As great of a song as Vehicle is, and as many times as one still hears it, the "live" version captured on this CD is a treat!

Aire of Good Feeling is another song that sounds even better live. And Rebel Girl is a rocker. I am simply amazed that these guys have the same energy level as they did back in the days the topped the charts with songs like Vehicle and L.A. Goodbye. I think Jim Peterik obviously was lying about his age back then. (he owes me 5 bucks now...)

Take my advice...by the CD and then see them in person, or do the same in the opposite fashion. You will enjoy both equally.

I think nobody writes high-energy, straight-from-the-heart lyrics like Jim Peterik."
