CD Reviews

Iodine--baby grand
Joe Lynch | Indianapolis, IN | 02/04/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

""Satellites up in the sky don't know everything...I can't remember why," sings Jay Joyce, lead singer/guitarist of Iodine. His words from the song "Absolute Perfection" are just ONE of the many standouts on their second release. The production on this outing is absolutely flawless with chiming guitars, liquid bass, and drumming that will keep your feet tapping for the entire 33 minutes. Its tough to categorize "Baby Grand" so I wont. I'll just say that the album's producers (the corduroy boys) put their own production of this band's first CD "Maximum Joy" to shame with this release. The track "Dark Star" begins slowly only to build to an exciting wet dream, while "Ten Seconds" and "Liar" pound with an intrusive and intoxicating force. Be proud Iodine...be very proud!"
Raucous rock n' roll at its finest!

"I simply cannot onderstand why this recording is not receiving the airplay it deserves. This band is simply better than anything you here on so-called alternative radio stations in my area. There is not a weak track on 'Baby Grand'. The writing is intelligent and the music exceptional. The only reason I gave this four instead of five stars is the relatively thin mix (the only downside of Husker Du). It is hard to believe that three guys can produce such a melodic wall of noise. Anyone who has ever gotten into bands like Nirvana, Sonic Youth or Husker Du should immediately fork out the ridiculously small amount for this cd and enjoy!"
