I agree. This raw recording is both unusual and moving. Rainey has an excellent control over both the instrument and the music that comes from it. This record was quite a surprise for me. Since hearing it, I've also heard Rainey on another quite excellent release - a band called nmperign with Greg Kelley on trumpet and Tatsuya Nakatani on percussion. The album is called 44'38"/5. Both ink. and nmperign are highly recommended listening."
