CD Reviews

Old school meets new school with a groove

"I love this disc. I got it as a gift from a friend who went to the CD opening party and I haven't taken it out of my player yet. Rocky, bluesy and great slide work on this and I love the singers voice. Like I said before its where old school blues and rock come into the new millenium. Great driving music!"
THIS IS SOME BRILLIANT AND IMAGINATIVE GUMBO

"Iko Iko is a fresh sounding blues band from Florida. These guys have a cool sound that covers everything from swampy blues, cajun, R&B, jazz, and rock and roll. Two of the songs here, "Teasing The Trains" and Too High To Drive", remind me a little of the modern day Little Feat sound. But only a little, this band has a pretty unique sound. These are also great dance tunes. "American Dream" is a nice cajun song that offers a good sounding sax and accordian. Also featuring some great sax playing is the slow jazzy "Pet De Kat", and the mega-bumpin' rock and roller "Iko-A-Go-Go". My favorite tune here is the album closer "Ridin' On The Rims". This is a great mid-tempo song that features some very catchy, rolling piano lines that's hard to get out of my head. It's one of the best songs that I've heard this year. I'm basically a blues rock lover, but this album has so much downhome crossover appeal to it. There's not a weak song on here. The music on "Shine" seems to have a way of staying in you subconscious long after you've listened to it. Iko Iko is a one of a kind band, and "Shine" is a entertaining and worthwhile find."

"Hey, I'm lucky enough to hear these guys all the time here in Miami. Austin, Boston, Wichita, Saginaw, Moline or Eugene, Newport News or Syracuse, these guys are ready for a national audience. One of the 10 best albums of the year..."
