CD Reviews

Iggy&The Stooges - 'Michigan Palace' (Bomp Records)
Mike Reed | USA | 09/23/2004
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Probably not the best Stooges archive live recording around, but 'Michigan Palace' is still worth snatching up a copy for ALL Iggy/Stooges fans. This 42-minute set was recorded live on October 6,1973 reportedly on guitarist James Williamson's home reel-to-reel.Like several of the OTHER Stooges vintage releases, the sound is far from perfect, but it's still very listenable.I notice that just six songs were played and Iggy spent a total of eight minutes chatting it up with the crowd.Makes me think they most likely opened for another band.If you have the time,a decent live disc to check out.For most Iggy/Stooges fans, another title to add to your already extensive Stooges collection.Haven't seen this disc in any used store,as of yet."
Raw power, rough sound
Phil S. | USA | 03/26/2009
(3 out of 5 stars)

"Some of the best proto-punk ever captured on a cheap tape recorder. All the tracks have drive (thanks, Detroit) and pop (thanks, Iggy). "Raw Power" and "Head On" open up the set and set the tone.

Can't make heads or tails of the three I.P. rapp-"rants", but it all works.

If there's a commercial DVD out there on this show, I'll add it to my collection of generally more polite expositions, just for balance sake."
