CD Reviews

The kind of classic metal that's been missing for 20 years!

"Prepare to be blown away by some old school metal from a new school band. If you're like me, you've been waiting for someone to come along and carry on that tradition of fire breathing metal that used to be everywhere in the '80s with killer bands like Maiden, Savatage, Queensryche, Dokken, Priest, Dio, King Diamond, Scorpions, W.A.S.P., etc. I first heard Icarus Witch on the evil lives Sabbath tribute & while they seem to have appeared out of nowhere (actually Pittsburgh, I think), they pick up right where the aforementioned bands left off in their prime. They actually have a unique, mystical metal sound, wearing those arena rock influences on their sleeves but never come off as clones or wannabes.

The first song is an Alice Cooper cover I've never heard but will check out the original now. Icarus Witch have great vocals that remind me of early Priest or the guy who sang on Yngwie's early stuff. They have dynamite guitars with plenty of solos (remember those?) but not overplayed. The bass parts really stand out as solid & melodic. I can't think of a bad thing to say about this really, other than I wish it were longer, but what the hell I only paid 5 bucks! It came in a cardboard sleeve that reminds me of a miniature vinyl record and even had a free sticker. This version is limited so I'm glad I got it right away. Can't wait to hear more Witch & hopefully see them play if they make it out this way."
Metal reigns once more!

"I'd be remiss if I did not honor this stellar, breakthrough band with some praise. Years have passed with little hope of meeting the edge some say, came from the eighties; when metal ruled the world. Well, don't bother trying to assuage the pain and void with the languid, banal bands that seem to be, sadly, accepted in the world of music today. Icarus Witch has swept in with an electrifying and even frightfully promsing sound. They'll leave you feeling as if you've not only taken one's senses down memory lane, but will ROCK YOUR FACE off with greater intensity than Ozzy's alterated states past. Or perhaps reel you in with subconscious mencing, melodic charm that would surely put even Manson-esque technique to shame.

Upon initial listen, my hair stood at attention all over my body. Wondering if my nightmares would now arrive in color, and dreams existing in the form of crooked smiles & the sandman witch. Desire has been unearthed.

Icarus Witch would have served up a fine plate of competition back in the day. Now, seem to set the bar higher than perhaps we've EVER known.

Without question, NEVER stop listening to the metal that breathed life into your eager bones. Divine inspiration will always follow the sound. However, if you're going to invest in any cd this year, DO NOT hesitate to pick up this release from Icarus Witch! Though it's a shorter play list, with only five songs, the ominous tone is set. The insatiable have been created deep within the ears of those daring & privy. Metal now rides it's dark, haunting and ravenous head once again.

This sovereign feast lies before you!"
Not just hype, true metal!

"I'm always reluctant to believe press I read on a band and even moreso when the press can be submitted by anyone. However, I took a chance on this cheap CD by "American metal's new hope" because I love the old school sound and can't stomach the Ozzfest status quo anymore. Sure, I may be too young to have bought Dio & Whitesnake records when they first came out, but that's all the more reason to embrace a band from this generation who are not afraid to say -to hell with the trends, we're playing heavy metal!-

Gotta respect that & I do. This CD owns! And from what I've heard there is a full album coming out soon. I won't be the Last In Line. \m/ >< \m/"
