Synopsis

Album Description
Imagine if Charles Ives sat in on a set with Slayer. Envision Busta Rhymes trapped in a high-rise elevator with Muzac blaring from the overhead speakers. Put another way: THE HUB is a band whose appetite for far flung sounds often defies categorization and whose members play with the conviction and ferocity of men on a mission. Straight out of the underground music scene in Brooklyn, this avant-garde trio consists of Dan Magay on alto sax, Tim Dahl on electric bass, and Sean Noonan on drums. With "Trucker" the boys take another existential leap by creating a sonic amalgam of punk, new wave, metal, funk, and freeform jazz improvisation. So? What is THE HUB? They?re an irresistible force for progressive music listeners everywhere.

CD Reviews

WOOOW!
Artur Nowak | 02/04/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The Hub is an amazing trio. This is their third album, I would give them 5 stars only if the recording quality would be slightly better. But the music itself is fascinating. They mix all kind of styles into one energetic fusion, on one hand you have Naked City style cut&paste technique, they jump across different styles, you have Ruins-like power rock, Melt Banana hardcore stuff, with amazing Tim Dahl on bass, on the other hand you have lirycal passages like those from Charls Ives songs. And it's all original, they don't copy those artists, but they have created their own blend of styles. But The Hub can not only mix composition styles, but the way they perform the music is really impressive. The Hub is a band to see live, you won't believe your ears and eyes. Sean Noonan on drums is such fun to watch live, he is excellent performer, Tim's bass technique is too fast to be observed, Dan's sax playing fits perfectly between these two with more melody and balanced playing. The Hub is a huge hope for the future, I want to see them live and hear their progress in terms of composing."
