CD Reviews

Grungy retro guitar rock ROCKS!

"A lot of Americans probably first heard Holly Golightly as a guest singer on the White Stripes' "Elephant" album. White Stripes fans would be advised to check out Golightly's work---it's amazing! Her voice is quirky and sexy and the backing music is minimal and edgy garage rock, sometimes bluesy and sometimes tinged with a retro surf-punk attitude."
Best New (to me) in Many Years

"I will be buying more Holly Golightly after listening to this. It has been a long time since I've bothered to write a review on amazon.com, but this is a special album, deserving comment. Many people seem to place Ms. Golightly in the garage scene, but I find she transcends that label, and in a good way. I'm attracted to Stripes, Black Keys, Airplane Man, Dirt Bombs, Detroit Cobras, etc. for the same reasons everyone else seems to be, but Holly Golightly is better than them in that she maintains their raw, lightly produced integrity while developing very subtle multi-layered compostions the instrumentation of the others simply doesn't allow. Golighty's a great blend of the straight on and the aesthetic, perhaps mannered, and she puts her individual, sometimes deadpanned, stamp on the influences she so respectfully shares with us, going back to R&B, old pyschedelic cords, delta blues slide guitar, punk and girl stuff. You should buy Holly Golightly. I'll be getting more."

"I have a few Holly G. albums and this is my favorite. I like the X feel(Excene Cervenka and John Doe duets) of their new album and am going to buy that too. . ."
