CD Reviews

These Guys Deserved Better
jekyllnhyde | NJ | 01/10/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The Hoax split up in 1999, & the fact that they never became a huge success is incomprehensible. True, the SRV influence is obvious, but unlike other imitators, these guys were true originals in a genre that often becomes stagnant. Their soulful, funky spin on the blues is unlike anyone else I've heard. Hugh Coltman is one of my favorite vocalists of all-time, as well as an incredible harmonica player, & Jon Amor and Jesse Davey are as powerful a duo on guitars as you'll ever hear. Still, this release gives only a hint of their full potential. Look for their live "Live Forever" finale. The latter is without a doubt my favorite blues CD of all-time."
Doesn't Get Much Better Than This..
Tim From Cincinnati | Land of Lonnie Mack | 06/07/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"To compare them to SRV, is not really deserving, you could use the same argument, that Stevie, sounds a lot like Lonnie Mack..But this cd, has to be a damn near, the "perfect", studio effort. Ive listend to this thing, too many times, and keep coming back to it...great vocalist, with two of the best, kick ass, twin guitarists..they could stand on their own, anyday, against any band, if only, they had not broken up...i cannot recommend, this cd more...Great cd. Great band."
The Best British Blues band

"I love this CD. Its not just all straight forward blues, they drift off a bit into other genres, like funk for instance, but it all works well.
Hugh Coltman has a damn fine blues voice, and Jessey Davey and Jon Amor play a pretty impressive guitar. If you like to hear good guitarists playing the blues, give these guts a try. Even if they have broken up, they are REALLY worth a listen, but hey, thats just my humble opinion......"
