Don't Expect Fuky House and You'll LOVE It
C. McGarry | Everywhere | 01/31/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"First off, this is not your sterotypical house release from OM, it is a dark journey into minimal house and tech-house, with generous helpings of abstract and unique tracks. This is not to say that these CD's are not special, actually it is the opposite.

These two CD's represent the cream of the crop when it comes to the sound they reflect. Disc 1, Hipp-E's mix, is an instant classic. Maintaining a percussive-heavy sound throughout, the mix starts off minimally and works its way into peak sounds by tracks 6 & 7. To anyone familiar with Hipp-E, his sound and influence will be easily recognized and appreciated. Every track evolves and morphs into something else and each one is a gem to be treasured.

Disc 2, Style of Eye's mix, continues in the dark tech sounds, with perhaps a bit more of a tech and less of a minimal influence than the first disk. The tracks scream originality, tweaking abstract beats and samples into a funky electro sound that thumps and grooves.

Both CDs do an amazing job at taking you through a journey representative of the style of each respective DJ. Guaranteed not to disappoint if:

1. You don't expect the typical OM release (soulful house w/organic sound)

2. You listen to them with an audio system that is able to do justice to the multi-tiered bass thump-age which will be pouring out of your speakers."
The best of the OM label mix series.

"While I like a lot of past OM house mixes, none have been as consistently filled with track after track of above average, quality tracks as this new 2 disc set, and the first Om: Winter Sessions. The move to go tech house has certainly payed off for OM, as for me, these are easily their best two releases in the label's history. These are nothing like the house found on their Sessions mixes, and feature techno, tech house, and minimal.

The first Winter Sessions featured a few standard house vocal tracks, but nearly all the vocals and basic house tracks are gone for this mix, which isn't a bad thing at all. It's just two discs filled with amazing dance floor filling tech house. Perfect track selection and mixing through both mixes, and just when you thought Disc 2 was never going to top what you've just listened to on the first, it's just about the same level, if not a notch better for Style Of Eye's mix.

If you're a true OM fan and didn't like the first Winter Sessions, and Summer Sessions and deep house are more your thing, than stay away. But, if you're looking to expand even further into the tech house territory first explored by Winter Sessions 1, this is a must have set."
AMAZING DANCE MUSIC OF THE FUTURE

"Needless to say that I've enjoyed OM's music ranging from TECHNO, HOUSE or CHILLED music produced out SF, CA. for more than a decade. I am a true House music lover, and I am one of their most loyal listeners all the way from the city of CHICAGO. If you are looking for something new and fresh, PLEASE be prepared to experience the TRUE marriage of Techno and House music for the future as I have never heard it before. This release is different than what someone may be accustomed to from OM. The entire release explores the beginnings of the DANCE MUSIC OF THE FUTURE, and it is some of the BEST that I have heard from OM. The techno house and techno minimal house on these Winter Sessions 2 CDS definitely sent me on a journey at warp speed to the year 2030, and I LOVED IT! I felt like I did NOT want to come back to present time either. The real future of DANCE HOUSE MUSIC IS HERE, and it's certainly delivered by OM records. I can't wait when these artists begin introducing sporadic lyrics throughout these techno-futuristic house melodic tracks. What will that sound like? But, for now, I WILL ENJOY these CDs for the rest of 2030. Oh, I meant 2008!"
