CD ReviewsGreat Debut Album 07/11/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "The "Heroes'" have been on the NYC music scene for a few years, and I have eagerly awaited this CD's release. It was worth the wait....it covers some of my favourite songs from them, including the slower, lyrical "Elements," to the driving energy of "Navigator" and "That Kind of Girl". This band has a unique sound while relying on traditional rock band components....solid bass and drumming, guitar licks with tube-amp warmth and crunch, and the gritty yet unwavering bellows of Dave Makuen. The lyrics are intelligent without ever being condescending or pretentious...they don't take themselves too seriously (look at their name). I hate labeling new bands, so I won't, but I will say that if you like old REM or the Pixies, The Strokes, or even Weezer, you will be very pleased with this purchase."
