CD Reviews

GREAT.The "Skipper showcases Azar Lawrence who is back!!!!!!

"A 2007 release this is Henry "The Skipper" Franklin's regular working band with ACE playing by Franklin, pianist Theo Saunders, vet drummer Carl Burnett and guest Ramadan Mu Min on percussion. Now normally I like two originals with 7 standards and this is reverse but it is just great. The standout among these great players is early 70's tenor star Lawrence Azar who after having some decent selling solo Lp's and being the saxman for early 70's McCoy Tyner Band and went into obscurity is having a hell of a 21st century comeback. They rip through 6 originals and "Weaver Of Dreams" by Victor Young,The title track by Oscar Brown, and "My One And Only Love" by Guy Wood.Check it out. Also good is similar line up on "Oh What a Beautiful Morning".Since these are small independents I suggest going and checking (and getting at the Skippers site.Am waiting to pony up on Azar Lawrence's Porter CD which is new and getting whatever I can by this resurrected master.Highly recommended.Check Out Jazz Foundation Of America and help if you can and pass the good word on the main suppot group for our niche passion of the music biz.

Peace

Chazz"

"I heard one of the tracks from the CD on a jazz radio station and I knew I would enjoy the music. But I was pleasantly surprised to find out that all the tracks were outstanding. If an opportunity arises to purchase this CD, don't pass it up. You won't be sorry...
