Synopsis
Amazon.com The third album from Cameroonian Henri Dikongué is essentially a refinement of the styles he's explored on his first two releases. While there's a definite African heart to a track like "Bun'a Te," Mot'a Bobe (which translates as "Hypocrisy") casts its musical net across the globe, from the Parisian boulevard ambience of "N'Dolo," which recalls one of his idols, Charles Aznavour, to the soft Caribbean touches of "Clone." A fine guitarist, Dikongué can also pen a beautiful ballad such as the title track or hold his own on the instrumental "N'Oublie Jamais," with countryman Manu Dibango guesting on sax. His music might veer firmly into the mainstream, but Dikongué seems perfectly content with that--and by doing so, he stands a good chance of attracting a broad audience, which is certainly no sin. --Chris Nickson Similarly Requested CDs

CD ReviewsDisappointed 02/04/2001 (2 out of 5 stars) ""C'est la Vie" is a favorite of mine. I like his voice, the sweetness of the songs, along with the variety and afro-rhythms, but this latest, "Mot'a Bobe" is too saccharine, too slick, produced, euro-french for my taste. I was very disappointed." Henri ,ou est Manuel ? or Henri where is Manuel ? coco | TAKOMA PARK , usa | 03/04/2001 (3 out of 5 stars) "As a guitarist ,I personally improved my skills by listening to Henri Dikongue who operated a smooth revolution in the way Africa chants .Mota Bobe is good but "Wa was great " ,and so was "C'est la vie" .It's stands out that this album would been spiced up ,were it for arrangments like Manuel Wandji's. I don't know what happened between henri and his friend Wandji who did such a good job in arranging the 2 previous records . Those guys should manage to get together to lift up the chanting voices of Africa .If Henri does not get what I 'm talking about ,I entrust him to see how Paul simon ,Kumalo ,and Vincent Nguini stick together and succeed .Henri ,Manuel ,RETROUVEZ VOUS POUR LE PROCHAIN ALBUM :SINON ,LE CHAR DES DIEU VOUS TOMBERA SUR LA TETE . An admirer from Washington DC ."
