Synopsis

Album Description
A heartwarming and tender collection of Armenian lullabies and night songs, including traditional selections as well as original compositions. As night falls, moonlight shimmers upon a world where a mother sings an "oror" (lullaby) for her little one. Like music, the language of a mother's love is universal, and the sentimental themes of this CD speak to the hopes and dreams of every family, culture, and nation. Featuring songs written by her parents Annig Zindarsian and Earl Zindars, the CD offers an interesting blend of styles with crossover appeal into the genres of folk, jazz, and classical music. The CD also features several traditional Armenian melodies, as well as some re-discovered treasures of Armenian music. A special treat is a recording of Helene singing an Armenian "sharagan" (church hymn) when she was only 3 years old.

Traditional heritage honored by elegant performance

(5 out of 5 stars)

"With the voice of an angel, Miss Zindarsian pays homage to her family and her Armenian heritage with this collection of seductive melodies. As a non-Armenian, and someone who enjoys owning very few recordings of soprano voice, I was caught off guard by the beauty of these songs, and even more so by the way she sculpts the melodic lines and lyrical phrases into an end result that is nothing short of captivating. The Armenian language is not as inherently musical as Latin or Italian, but in these recordings, the artist weaves the words in a delicate and graceful manner, enabling the audience to quite literally feel the authors' (including members of the Zindarsian family) love of their heritage, faith, and family. Magical talent revealing a magical people with a magical heart. Most recommended."
