Synopsis

Album Description
2008 expanded two CD edition of the British Indie band's sophomore album featuring an additional 29 bonus tracks including deleted EPs, B-sides and alternate versions. The original 1999 release of Fidelity Wars reached #1 in the Independent Album charts, with its accompanying single, cult favorite 'Hymn For The Cigarettes' securing them the #1 place in the Independent Single charts as well. It was also the year that saw Hefner working hard for John Peel, recording three sessions for his show and having five entries in the Festive Fifty for '99. Belka.

One of the UPCs listed for this cd is most certainly NOT the "expanded two disc version," it is the original release ONE DISC version. Please disregard the amazon info, which is often for different editions than the specific cd posted via UPC on this site.

Tremendous effort whether you like indy rock or not
Z. Freeman | Austin, TX | 02/07/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I bought this cd years ago not knowing anything about the band, much less the songs on the cd. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. Hefner is still one of my favorite bands, although they have since disbanded, no pun intended, okay maybe a little.

Every song on this cd is memorable, meaningful, and heartfelt. The singer may not have the best voice, in fact some may say he has a terrible voice, but it's very distinct, which in many ways makes it more enjoyable and leaves a lasting impression on the listener.

It's hard to pick a favorite track, as each song is catchy and original. This cd has a very raw quality to it that really adds to the melancholy mood displayed throughout. If I had to compare Hefner to another band, I'd say they're an English version of early Weezer stuff. If you like indy rock you'll love Hefner. Check them out."
