CD Reviews

Unbelievably great debut
BENJAMIN MILER | Veneta, Oregon | 11/16/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I can't see why this album often not gets the best reviews, but for me, I think their debut is simply one of the greatest Hawkwind albums I have ever heard! The music is very raw and exciting. The album opening and ending album consists of two really catchy songs, the bluesy "Hurry On Sundown" and the closing "Mirror of Illusion". In between is some of the most killer instrumental guitar jams I have ever heard! It really gets intense, and it blows me away every time I hear it. If you've been blown away on how wild Tangerine Dream's Electronic Meditation is (which is way different from their usual electronic albums, for those who hadn't heard it) or "Amboss" off Ash Ra Tempel's 1971 debut, you're sure to love Hawkwind's debut as it reminds me a whole lot of those albums. I don't see why this album seems to not get that good of praise. To me I think this is a way better album than their followup In Search Of Space, which lacks the raw energy and excitement of their debut. If you love nothing more than killer psychedelic guitar jams that's sure to blow you away, be sure to pick up Hawkwind's debut."
Mega good music

"This was hawkwinds first album and one of their best. i've had this record in my collection on vinyl since the sixties and would recommend it to anybody who hasnt listened to hawkwind before. the music is mindblowing listened to in a dark room. its quite trippy music and unlike anything hawkwind done in later times, well worth a listen"
