Synopsis

Product Description
In the diaspora, Haitian music and musicians have had little representation (relative to widely exported and popular musical styles such as reggae & salsa). In the Caribbean, African music has mixed with the other cultural influences, taking that root and bearing unique fruit. Haitian music is complex and driving rhythmically, carrying the listener on its fluidity, overtones and passion. "Kay la Boule" means "Burning House" in Haitian Kreyol and , with spoken word set to music, poetically describes the present state of Ayizan's native Haiti. The songs are powerfully written and sung in Kreyol and translated into English (on the CD jacket) for a broader understanding. The music lyrically rides as forceful currents as the poetry. Together they serve as transport on a poignant journey. There are eight poem/songs on the CD, the English translations for the titles being: LAVI PA CHANJE LIFE DOES NOT CHANGE DEKADANS DECADANCE PLEZI PWEZI THE JOY OF POETRY RI DI PEP PEOPLE'S STREET SAN INOSAN INNOCENT BLOOD PEP PEOPLE FO GON JIJMAN THERE MUST BE A VERDICT DESEPSYON DECEPTION The music is melodic, complex without contrivance, intriguing, rhythmic in a very Haitian way as well as very accessible. The message is compelling - a necessary expression of hope and challenge to the Haitian people and to the world community.
