Amazing First Album
06/15/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

""Here to Jackson" is an apt title as these talented young musicians transport us across a wide-ranging geographical and musical landscape. Their experiences as Wyoming wranglers and South Texas troubadors come alive in such songs as Last Wyoming Cowboy, High on the Teton Range, Texas Bound Again and Peace of the Gypsy. Their down and out times find gentle expression in the ballad Something to Smile About and then rebound with a grin and toe-tappin' boot-scootin' vigor in Paycheck to Paycheck. The influence of Hispanic culture and music is obvious in El Soldado Viejo and in the wonderful recurring refrain "...take me down to Del Rio where the mariachi play..." in The Real Ones. Girl From San Antonio and For the Boys are haunting sensitive reflections from their deep pool of personal experience and remind us all of the pain and hurt and joy of this wonderful world we share. As they sing in For the Boys, "Here's to our glory and moment in the sun, always companeros until our time is done." All of the songs on this album were written by these two talented young men. It is truly a wonderful and amazing first effort."
