CD Reviews

Everybody SHOULD'VE Talked This One Up
MrB | USA | 01/22/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I've had this on tape for many years (actually my wife - girlfriend then I think? - gave this to me and I still have it and cherish it), and what a sweet one it is. This album didn't do so well for some reason here in the U.S. but it really should've. Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes were potent on all the cuts, but in particular, "I Really Love You" and "Time Be My Lover" are exceptional ballads. If you want to hear quintesential "Harold" this is it man...All the riffs and style you know from his other greats are smoothed out in "I Really Love You." I'm really surprised you don't still hear this on soul radio, what a love song from a voice that brought you so many goodies. The rest of the album is nice too, and I absolutely love the guy that replaced Teddy Pendergrass, excellent choice, sounds so much like him. Saw them in person a while back and they did not dissapoint. Harold Melvin was still there then and they were powerful, like their days of old. Anyway, get this CD if you can. It's one that got away without proper appreciation for how good it really is. Believe me, you won't be dissapointed. -MB"
