"This music always reminds of growing up in Brooklyn and of theparties my parents used to host. My momma loved Teddy P and ownedeverything he ever made. This collection of songs from when he was the front man for Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes showcases Teddy P before he became an international sex symbol. His voice is raw, gruff even, and commanding. This man had such stage presence, and he always knew how to sing to the ladies. "I Miss You", "The Love I Lost" and "Wake Up Everybody" are classics. My personal favorite from this period "Be For Real" wasn't up here. In that song he upbraids his uppity woman for her ugly ways and warns her to straighten up. There's more talking than singing on that cut, but I still dig it. New souls singers should take note of this man's style. He was damned sexy without being vulgar."
