CD Reviews

Breaking the Surface is incredible.
M. Walton | Toronto, Canada. | 04/13/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Hand to Hand has been a band that I found a long time ago, and have been listening to ever since. They're first release, "The Perfect Way to Say Goodbye" was amazing.

I listened to it all the time, it was one of the albums that both my 17 and 10 year old brothers remembers hearing repeatedly. They generally hate metal, but they even loves the songs on that CD.

Anyway, heres a song by song review.

1. Durfresne, Party of Six - The song opens softly and then kicks off in one of many steller riffs throughout the album. The drumming notibly, throughout the CD. The singing in this song is what defines Hand to Hand's sound. It's their amazing melodies. Very solid track, and a great opener.

9/10

2. Shark Week - The song picks up right away with soaring vocals. The hooks in this song are even better than the first track. VERY catchy stuff. I love it. A perfect blend of melody and aggression. The riffs are atmospheric and flawless. The ending is epic, possibly the best track on the CD.

10/10

3. Paint This Town Black - The opening sounds like a punk song almost. The chorus and middle section are solid, not as good as others, but still good. The ending is softer and catchy. The outro is probably the best part of this song. Not bad. Maybe it will grow on me.

6.5/10

4. Bullets for Teeth - Sweet song name. The song right away sounds like chaos about to happen. The build up is effing brilliant. The song takes off and the singer carries the power through out. The chorus is soaring, Hand to Hand at it's best right here. The song makes you wanna move, punch something, scream, great stuff.

10/10

5. Romantic Comedy - Great build-up intro into yet another astounding HTH riff. Great chorus. Very catchy melodies, yet again. Probably the best chorus on the CD. "All we want to be, is something more than a name" is one of the most memorable lines on the CD. Close to taking the best song on the CD title.

Overall, absolutely incredible EP. One of the best I've ever heard. It's atmospheric, its soaring, the melodies are incredible, the heavy parts are insane and totally worth of a concert experience. Great job Hand to Hand, I anxiously await their full length album in late May."
